JAZZ/TAKES SERIES 2022 @ Louisiana Museum of Modern Art

A musical journey through interpretations of repertoire and genres not previously translated through the lens of Jazz

The Niels Lan Doky International Jazz Collective (NLD IJC) will once again take up residence at the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art in 2022 to produce no less than five unique, exclusive and highly innovative concert projects led by some of the greatest jazz artists from our time.


TERRI LYNE CARRINGTON

AUG 13 - A TRUE JAZZ MASTER’S TAKE ON SONGS WE LOVE FROM 70s FUNK

The impactable drummer Terri Lyne Carrington will lead this Jazz/Take on 1970s Funk with songs by James Brown, Earth, Wind & Fire, Sly and the Family Stone, Rufus & Chaka Khan, and Stevie Wonder. NEA Jazz Master and three-time GRAMMY® award-winning drummer, producer, and educator, Terri Lyne Carrington started her professional career as a “kid wonder” while studying under a full scholarship at Berklee. To date Ms. Carrington has performed on over 100 recordings and has toured or recorded with luminary artists.

MODERN STANDARDS SUPERGROUP

JUNE 29 - ALL TIME JAZZ GREATS TAKE ON THE BIGGEST POP HITS OF TODAY

The repertoire referred to as “Jazz Standards” consists of pop songs from the 1930s and 40s. The MODERN STANDARDS SUPERGROUP revives this old tradition and reinterpret it for the modern pop music landscape. including songs by The Weeknd, Billie Eilish, Anderson Paak, Dua Lipa, Justin Bieber, and the likes. The supergroup consists of some of jazz’ greatest: Billy Cobham, Bill Evans, Randy Brecker, Linley Marthe, & Niels Lan Doky.

SEP 02 - ROCK ALL OUT THROUGH JAZZ WITH THE ENERGETIC TWIN DUO

Dynamic, lively, musical, charismatic, forceful, engaging, and virtuosos are just some of the words that describe the Moutin Brothers consisting of François Moutin on double bass and Louis Moutin on drums. You will rarely experience such an energy explosion from a jazz concert. They host a Jazz/Take on 1970s UK Arena Rock including songs by David Bowie, Queen, Foreigner, Deep Purple, and Led Zeppelin.

NOV 04 - JAZZ/TAKE HIGHLIGHTS FROM CURRENT AND PAST SEASON

Jazz/Take highlights from current and past seasons from Louisiana. Harvey Mason’s sound and drum style is unavoidable as one of the most recorded drummers of all time. Darryl Jones rose to fame touring with Miles Davis and later joined the Rolling Stones. Saxophonist Bill Evans also began his career with Miles, recorded 26 solo CDs and toured with the biggest names. Pianist, composer, and producer, Niels Lan Doky, has been hailed as “one of the most important pianists that European jazz has given us in the last 45 years”.

DEC 02 - BRITPOP SING-ALONGS WITH A SUPREME JAZZ QUINTET

At the seasons last Jazz/Take, the marvelous drummer Alvin Queen will host a program of Jazz/Takes on 1990s Britpop with renditions of songs by Blur, Oasis, Suede, Pulp & Radiohead. Alvin Queen, is a legend in his own right. For many years, he was the drummer in Oscar Peterson’s final group before the latter’s passing in 2007. his career includes memorable collaborations with a veritable who’s who of music royalty, including Nina Simone, Horace Silver, George Benson, Wynton Marsalis, Johnny Griffin.
