Join us for a whole new and exclusive experience in MovieHouse when Niels Land Doky International Jazz Collective plays a 40 minute concert with the best Christmas tunes live in the cinema theater and subsequently enjoy one of the most romantic Christmas movies "The Holiday" with Jude Law, Cameron Diaz, Kate Winslet, and Jack Black.

In collaboration with MovieHouse we have curated two exclusive nights in their beautiful theater. All nights will include performances of Christmas Jazz classics inside the cinema theater. Jazz interpretations of Christmas songs we all know and love from the all time greats such as Ella Fitzgerald, Nat King Cole, Mariah Carey, Frank Sinatra etc. The performance will furthermore include the new Niels Lan Doky Christmas release “The Christmas Gift of Love”. Each concert will be followed by classic Christmas films back on the big screen for everyone to enjoy. Sit back in the oversized, comfy red chairs of MovieHouse Hellerup, enjoy Christmas jazz at it’ finest, and get yourself into Holiday Hygge.
“THE CHRISTMAS GIFT OF LOVE”
“The Christmas Gift Of Love” is a brand new sparkling and uplifting Christmas song written and performed by The Knight Of Jazz, pianist Niels Lan Doky, with lyrics by Desmond Scaife Jr. who is also the song’s featured vocalist. You can listen to the song on your favourite streaming service here.
Although the song dates from 2020 (it was written during the COVID-19 lockdown) and is produced with today’s state-of-the-art recording technology - it is conceived as a joyful romantic feel-good song in the style of classic 1950s swinging crooner songs, with subtle references to traditional Christmas songs, children's songs and of course jazz standards. Had Nat King Cole and Frank Sinatra been alive today they would undoubtedly have been eager to record this song!
Almost like a flashback to the Tin Pan Alley era, “The Christmas Gift Of Love” starts off with a rubato introduction verse, leading into the main body of the song which is set in a compelling medium swing tempo. The song modulates upwards at the end of each chorus - an effect inspired by and reminiscent of songs such as Ella Fitzgerald’s "Mack The Knife", Nat King Cole’s "L.O.V.E." and Frank Sinatra’s "Summer Wind" - thus increasing the momentum time and time again throughout the song.
Aside from a classic jazz combo instrumentation with vocals, piano, guitar, upright bass and drums, the song also features a lush string orchestra arrangement by prominent Hollywood film composer, Daniel Nielsen. 2020 has been a very unusual year and the joy of the Christmas holiday season is more needed than ever before. “The Christmas Gift Of Love” is the perfect jazz Christmas song to get you instantly in the mood.
